Hello and welcome to my classroom web page.  My name is James Barnett and I've been an educator since 2006. I'm a 5th grade teacher at Garden Heights Elementary in Moses Lake, Washington. Instead of writing a narrative, I'll list the key items most people want to know right off the bat. Family: I'm married and am the father of two boys: Matthew and Gabriel -Gabriel passed away at birth in 2008 from a condition called "anencephaly." Favorite Activities: Spending time with family (As much as possible), teaching, sports, fitness, playing X-Box 360 (I rarely do, but I love it when I get the chance), keeping up on current events (I'm a news junkie) Education: Master in Teaching from Whitworth College, BA History from Eastern Washington University, Network Engineer program Spokane Community College, A.A. degree Spokane Community College Interesting Facts: Teaching is my dream job I'm a history geek My favorite hockey team is the St. Louis Blues I coached 8th grade football for 8 years I love technology in the classroom My favorite music band is Pink Floyd We listen to classical music in my classroom I am a member of the Washington Air National Guard I was in the Army Geocaching is really cool! I've lived in Germany I've been to Osan, South Korea I did a tandem sky dive from 10,000 feet (words can't describe how awesome) Things I Want To Do: Participate in a “Sprint Triathlon” next summer Run a marathon in the next two years Learn to ski (so I can take my family....if they want to) Climb Everest (never happen) Go to the bottom of the ocean (6.7 miles....never happen. Only two people have ever done this.) Give my students a wonderful and meaningful learning experience in my classroom Visit Antarctica (Probably never happen) Go on an adventure tour (Down the Colorado River, Yosemite, Yellowstone, etc.) Create an outdoor educational institute integrating nature, science, math, technology, teaching and learning for all K-12 kids in Washington......Bill Gates, Paul Allen, Oprah, Richard Branson, Bear Grylls, Les Stroud, etc., if you read this, please give me a call :-) ....Seriously
