It's hard to believe, but we're well into the second quarter of the school year! In last few weeks, students have concentrated on the reading strategy of using background knowledge to make connections with text. We've practiced making text-to-self connections, text-to-text connections and text-to-world connections. Ask your son or daughter to explain this strategy to you. This quarter we will begin to focus on writing. We'll start with writing simple sentences made up of simple and compound subjects and predicates. We'll move on to expanding those sentences with well-chosen adjectives, adverbs, prepositional phrases and figurative language. We'll also work on combining sentences and writing Magic-Three sentences. Students will continue to read independently. Your son or daughter should be asking you to sign their planner to verify their reading homework. Thirty minutes of reading homework is assigned every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday night.
Please feel free to call or email if you have concerns or questions.
