Dear North Elementary Families,

Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year! I am so happy to be a part of the North Elementary community. The past year was one of tremendous growth for families, students, staff and myself. Our staff, students, and families have worked VERY hard to make North the most spectacular learning environment for everyone.


Because our mission at North Elementary is to ensure all students succeed at high levels of learning, we will continue to promote the same 3 goals for the 2010-2011 school year:
  1. I will continue to work with the North staff in their quest to establish learning communities which promote high levels of learning for ALL students;
  2. I will continue to build family involvement within the educational setting;
  3. I will continue to work with the community, staff and students on increasing positive behaviors in and around the school environment, while implementing services and programs for helping students who may struggle in having consistent constructive behavior.
As many of you know, Moses Lake School District has implemented a Monday “late start” beginning this fall. The purpose of the late start is to allow teachers time to collaborate in teams. This is directly related to the first goal stated above, “establishing learning communities”. The collaborative time allows staff to look at data, learn new and better ways to teach your child, give teachers time to discuss student needs and progress, etc. The time set aside is incredibly valuable to the success of our school and your child. If you have any questions about the time, how it is being used, etc. please do not hesitate to ask your child’s teacher, the office, or myself for assistance. We will communicate further “late start” progress, learning, etc. as the year progress, so stay tuned!

Don’t forget, school starts September 1st @ 9:00 am for grades 1st-5th and on September 7th @ 9:00 am for our new kindergarteners! I would like to extend an invitation for you to attend OPEN HOUSE on Tuesday, August 31st from 6:00-7:00 p.m.  During this time we will have four different activities/events occurring:
  • 6:00-6:15 p.m. 1st-5th Grade Welcome (gymnasium)
  • 6:15-7:00 p.m. 1st-5th Grade Classroom (walkthroughs on your own)
  • 6:15-6:45 p.m. Kindergarten Welcome & Kindergarten Backpacks (cafeteria)
  • 7:00-7:30 p.m. 1st-5th Grade Backpack/Supplies Program (breezeway by office)
 
The Backpack/Supplies Program is a spectacular service provided by The Moses Lake Rotary. They are for students who are registered at North Elementary for the upcoming school year. Backpacks will be distributed at 7:00 p.m. Students must be on a class list and be present with a parent/guardian. Please do not ask for more than one backpack, as quantities are limited. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.

Once again, the North Team is taking things as far as they can to ensure that “all students achieve at high levels of learning”!  Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns.  I look forward to continuing our partnerships and building new relationships with all students and their families throughout the upcoming year.

Queridas familias de Primaria North,

¡Bienvenidos al año escolar 2010-2011!  Estoy contenta de formar parte de la comunidad de la Primaria North.  El año pasado fue uno de mucho crecimiento para muestras familias, estudiantes, facultad de maestros, y para mi.  Nuestra facultad, estudiantes, y familias han trabajado mucho para hacer que Primaria North tenga un ambiente espectacular para todos.

Usualmente, cambio es un proceso largo y difícil.  La facultad de maestros ha estado trabajando para cambiar el currículo, instrucción, y exámenes para asegurar que todos los estudiantes excedan a niveles altos de aprendizaje. Aunque estamos empezando a ver áreas de crecimiento en varios grados, estudios muestran que hacer cambios constantes y sustanciales es un proceso de 3 a 5 años.  Debido a esto, seguiré promoviendo las mismas 3 metas para el año escolar 2010-2011:

1.   Continuare trabajando con los maestros en su encuesta para establecer comunidades educativas, las cuales promueven niveles altos de aprendizaje para TODOS los estudiantes.

2.   Continuare construyendo participación de familias dentro del sistema educativo.

3.   Continuare trabajando con la comunidad, maestros, y estudiantes, en incrementar comportamientos positivos dentro y alrededor del ambiente escolar, mientras implementamos servicios y programas para ayudar estudiantes a mantener comportamiento constructivo.

Como muchos saben, el Distrito Escolar de Moses Lake ha implementado una “Entrada Tarde” iniciando este otoño. (Adjunto esta una agenda para Lunes, y también el resto de la semana.)  El propósito de la entrada tarde es para darle tiempo a los maestros para colaborar en grupo.  Esto concuerda con la primera meta de “establecer comunidades educativas”.  El tiempo para colaborar permite a los maestros repasar archivos, aprender nuevas técnicas para dar instrucción, hablar sobre necesidades individuales de alumnos y su progreso, etc.  Este tiempo es sumamente importante para el éxito de nuestra escuela y para su hijo/a.  Si tiene preguntas sobre este tiempo, como se esta utilizando, etc.  Siéntase libre de preguntar al maestro/a de su hijo/a, la oficina, o a mi para poder asistirle. 

Recuerden, clases inician el 1ro de Septiembre a las 9:00 a.m. para los grados 1ro – 5to y Septiembre 7 a las 9:00 a.m. para los nuevos alumnos de kínder.  Me gustaría extender una invitación para que atiendan la CASA ABIERTA el Martes, 31 de Agosto  de 6:00-7:00 p.m.  Durante este tiempo, tendremos diferentes actividades:

  • N     6:00-6:15 p.m. Grados 1-5: Bienvenida a Casa Abierta (gimnasio)

  • N     6:15-7:00 p.m. Grados 1-5: Recorrido de salones (individualmente)

  • N     6:15-6:45 p.m. Kinder:  Bienvenida a Casa Abierta y Mochilas (cafetería)

  • N     7:00-7:30 p.m.  Programa de Mochilas/Útiles escolares (corredor en seguida de oficina)

 

El programa de Mochilas/Útiles escolares es un servicio espectacular proveído por Moses Lake Rotary.  Es para los alumnos registrados en Primaria Norh para el año escolar.  Mochilas serán distribuidas a las 7:00 p.m.  Los alumnos necesitan estar en una lista de salón y presentarse con papas/guardianes.  Favor de no preguntar por mas de una mochila, las mochilas son limitadas.  Apreciamos su cooperación.

Una vez mas, la facultad de maestros de Primaria North esta haciendo lo posible para asegurar que “Todos los estudiantes aprendan a altos niveles de aprendizaje”  Siéntase libre de ponerse en contacto con migo si tuviese preguntas o comentarios.  Espero continuar en equipo y formar relaciones nuevas con todos los estudiantes y sus familias durante el próximo año.
