What is taught at North?

North Elementary staff strive to ensure that all students achieve at high levels of learning. In order to accomplish this, we use the district adopted curriculum and are in the process of aligning it with the Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs). For more information please click hereThe EALRs for all content areas were initially developed beginning with the Basic Education Act of 1993. These standards define what all students should know and be able to do at each grade level. The development of four learning goals have provided the foundation for the development of all academic learning standards in Washington State:

  1. Read with comprehension, write effectively, and communicate successfully in a variety of ways and settings and with a variety of audiences;
  2. Know and apply the core concepts and principles of mathematics; social, physical, and life sciences; civics and history, including different cultures and participation in representative government; geography; arts; and health and fitness;
  3. Think analytically, logically, and creatively, and to integrate different experiences and knowledge to form reasoned judgments and solve problems; and
  4. Understand the importance of work and finance and how performance, effort, and decisions directly affect future career and educational opportunities.
North Elementary uses the following curriculum to teach students the required state standards by the end of each school year. You may click on the subject area to view the specific state standards (what the state wants each child to know by the end of that grade level). You may also click on the curriculum title to go to the publishers website.
